1. Connect your cloud account to Ravion
Supported today: AWSLater this year: CloudFlare, GCP, Azure This enables us to automate your cloud account based on actions in Ravion, and to display logs, metrics, and deployment information from your cloud in Ravion.
2. Create or import a server, static site, lambda or any other infrastructure
Choose from our standard library of production-ready modules that are backed by Terraform. Or bring your own Terraform. You can use Ravion like Terraform Cloud, or package your Terraform into a re-usable Ravion module for your company.3. Ravion spins up temporary EC2 instances in your cloud to execute the Terraform plan and apply steps
The Terraform executes securely in your account so your source code and other secrets never live in the Ravion control plane. You get full visibility into every Terraform resource, planned changes, and versioned state changes over time.4. All infrastructure is provisioned in your cloud account
Even though Ravion may look like a PaaS, we don’t host any customer infrastructure or data. You get dedicated infrastructure for ultimate performance, control and security. This makes compliance much easier than on PaaS and scales to enterprise platform teams.5. Build your code in Ravion pipelines or in an external CI/CD provider
Ravion has a full featured CI/CD pipeline system to orchestrate builds, deploys, and any other code execution or tasks. Ravion pipelines run on temporary EC2 instances in your account, so you can securely access your private network without keys in or public access to GitHub actions. When using external pipelines, you trigger deploys through Ravion using our CLI or API.6. Ravion automates deployments and surfaces all the details like instance level status and logs
For example, in an ECS deployment, we take a task definition template, fill in required values, create a new task definition revision in AWS, start and monitor the deployment, and surface every low level event through the Ravion UI, API, and CLI. You get a much more comprehensive and easy to understand view of the deployment data than you can possibly get in your CI or AWS console. For Kubernetes deployments (coming soon), we can directly deploy Helm charts to clusters or integrate with ArgoCD.7. See all your infrastructure, builds, deploys, metrics, and logs in a single place
The Ravion dashboard and API gives you a single place to monitor, debug, and update all your infrastructure, builds, and deploys.8. Get ephemeral preview environments for pull requests or one-off testing
Define an environment template, and then create as many instances as you need to test pre-production changes in a live environment. And then quickly clean then up when you’re done.9. Your devops or platform team can fully customize every aspect of Ravion
While Ravion is easy for small teams to adopt, it’s actually an enterprise platform engineering system with great defaults. But it can be fully customized and locked down. You can modify or completely replace the default modules and pipelines to match your company’s workflows and compliance standards.Next steps
