A developer portal provides an interface. Ravion provides the framework and governed execution layer behind an internal developer platform. Platform teams define approved modules, infrastructure code, permissions, policies, pipelines, and approval rules. Developers and AI agents use those modules and connected operating context for safe self-service. How is Ravion different from a PaaS?
A managed PaaS gives teams a fixed platform experience, often on provider-managed infrastructure. Ravion provisions and operates applications in the customer’s AWS account. Teams get an approachable common path through production-ready modules and pipelines while retaining AWS ownership, native access, and the ability to bring existing infrastructure, customize modules, and adopt Ravion incrementally. What does Ravion replace?
Ravion replaces the need to stitch together a separate operating workflow across Terraform Cloud, Spacelift, or env0 for infrastructure automation; Vercel, Railway, or Heroku for simple deployment paths; and the AWS Console, Argo CD, or Flux for deployment visibility. It also provides core logs and metrics visibility out of the box for simpler observability needs, while integrating with Datadog, Grafana, and existing telemetry sources when teams need more. Ravion does not require teams to replace AWS, infrastructure as code, or their existing observability stack. Instead, it gives developers, AI agents, and DevOps one governed operating context that connects infrastructure, pipelines, deployments, failures, logs, and metrics while preserving access to native tools. Does Ravion run my infrastructure?
Ravion is a control plane that automates your cloud account, while your infrastructure runs in your own AWS account. Your application code, requests, traffic, and customer data do not pass through Ravion's control plane, and Terraform, builds, and pipelines execute on temporary EC2 instances inside your account. If Ravion has downtime, your running services, databases, and load balancers stay up; new builds, deploys, and Terraform runs wait until the control plane is back. See how Ravion works
Is Ravion safe for AI agents to use?
Ravion is designed for agents to work through the CLI and API against config as code: dry run first, review the diff, then apply. Every infrastructure change runs through a pipeline with a visible Terraform plan and an approval gate you control, while agents choose from modules your platform team approved instead of hand-writing IaC. What happened to Flightcontrol?
Flightcontrol launched in 2021 and remains maintained and supported for existing customers, but does not accept new customers. Ravion keeps the developer experience that worked well in Flightcontrol while solving the limitations that caused DevOps teams to migrate away from it.
